I think that both of us can agree that teaching is a humbling career. Are you finally considering entering the field of education without the actual hassle of having to handle a whole class?
If you are, then today’s review will enlighten you on how you can start online teaching with just one or a few students and ultimately answer whether Varsity Tutors is a scam or indeed a legitimate and profitable opportunity as speculated.
If you’ve been following this site, you probably know this is not the first time I’m reviewing this category. I have critically evaluated some of the top tutorial programs likeClub ZandWyzAnt Tutoringin recent years.
I have been writing so much about this opportunity lately because a lot of recent reports are pointing out thatthis type of learning is here to stay.
And if these reports are accurate, this industry will create many exciting online teaching jobs in the next two to five years. In my view, that is something we all should look forward to.
I mean, the beauty in this type of job is that you don’t have to pass licenses (although it may help in the application), take graduate study courses, or be physically in a classroom to give instructions.
easily the best way to make money online!
Today, you can set up your virtual tutorial business as long as you have access to a stable internet connection, apps likeZoomandMeet, and most importantly, electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, or phones.
Back in the day, only professionals with varied experiences and veteran instructors were the ones considering e-teaching. But with today’s demand for learning courses beyond the traditional (Math, Science, and English), anyone with skills can start teaching anytime.
Are you skilled at playing the guitar? 🎸
How about computer programming or foreign languages? 🖥️
Whatever it is that you’re passionate about, there’s got to be someone out there willing to pay you to teach them your skill.
And speaking of getting paid, you can expect to profit handsomely and take advantage of customer tips (depending on the quality of your teaching, of course).
If you will do it on a part-time basis for only an hour or two a day, you can expect to earn at least $500 per month, which in my opinion, is a pretty good starting point.
It may not sound like a lot initially, but it certainly pays better than other online opportunities likedoing micro tasksor signing up with paying sites likeLionbridge.
You see, the figure I gave you is the average, but it is very much possible to earn beyond that depending on the tutoring service you’ll sign up with.
And speaking of tutoring service, perhaps the reason you landed on this page is that you are wondering what Varsity Tutors is all about and whether it is a scam or a legitimate paying site.✅
So, without further ado, allow me to share with you my honest take on their services in the eyes of an aspiring tutor.
However, before I continue, let me just clarify that I am not connected with Varsity Tutors, nor am I affiliated with their company in any way, shape, or form.
I am saying this now to put your guard down, knowing that this post will not contain any upsells and offers to encourage you to sign up with them.
All I want is to help you make the right decision before signing in as a tutor with them. Now since everything is out of the way, let’s get this review started.

What Is Varsity Tutors All About?
While the company’s name may sound like an athletic coaching service, it’s actually one comprehensive educational platform.
You see, it efficiently connects students and professional tutors that can help in supporting the academic deficiencies from across subjects. By “subjects,” I do not just mean the basic math, science, and English, okay?
I mean complex subjects (from Pre-K to graduate class), technical and professional certifications, and even music and business!
Unlike other platforms, this one offers a wide range of subjects, making it one of the go-to services of thousands of students from the United States.
As you can see fromthis video, Varsity Tutors is not just for undergraduate students but also perfect for professionals.
Come on, the reality here is that all of us are not experts, and regardless of our age, having some educational support can help you to achieve your full potential.
As of writing, Varsity Tutors has around 40k experienced tutors who are carefully selected through a specific hiring process that has been continuously updated since 2007.
From the traditional face-to-face booking of tutors, the company has transitioned into innovative learning technologies by creating a robust platform (with collaborative spaces and interactive tools) on their site for both the instructors and students. ⭐👨🎓
In terms of legitimacy, you can rest assured that this company isaccredited by BBB, where it has had a resounding A+ rating since 2010.
Additionally, it also has an almost perfect rating of4.9 on Trustpilot, where about 93% of customers rated them as “excellent.” In this sense, I have no worries in saying that this company is not a scam.
Suppose you are looking for some receipts on where this company has been given attention.
In that case, you will find comfort knowing that Varsity Tutors has been featured by prominent media outlets likeChicago Sun-Times,St. Louis Business Journal,Entrepreneur,Bloomberg, andWashington Post, just to name a few.
How Does Varsity Tutors Work?
Getting started with Varsity Tutors is pretty straightforward as all you have to do is head over to their site and answer their employment application form online.
It consists of 5 phases where their team will take significant questions about you and your experience.
The first phase of the application begins with you giving them your phone number so they can contact you for an interview along with the name of your referrer if you even have any.
The second phase asks you to choose from 16 categories (with subjects) you are interested in teaching.
The third phase is where you’ll be tasked to list your undergraduate, graduate degree, and teaching certification.
Let’s say you’re taking your master’s and you’re about to graduate within the following year. In that case, you can feel free to write down the anticipated graduation year too.
The fourth phase asks you to note down your scores in 16 different types of tests like ACT English, SAT Math, GMAT, and such.
You are free to skip any of the tests if ever you have not taken them. 👈
Also, please note that you should be truthful in answering this because once they schedule you for an interview, they will validate your scores in the tests and your transcripts.
The fifth and final phase is where you’ll be asked to walk them briefly about your experiences in teaching or even tutoring. Additionally, be ready for the essay part, where they’ll ask you about your ideal approach in conducting your first tutoring session with a student.
Once they are done with the screening and review of academic history, you’ll be scheduled for an interview. 📝
You can expect a combination of basic questions and situational ones as they will gauge your ability to express instructions and hire the ones with excellent communication skills.
Technically, the process may take a week or two, but once you are accepted, you’ll be granted instant access to the platform where you can personalize your tutor’s profile.
From there, you can also label how much time you are willing to spend and how many students you can cater to in a week.
Additionally, you can set the type of instruction you are most comfortable with: online or face to face. However, given the COVID-19 restrictions, face to face meeting is currently suspended.
How Much Does Varsity Tutors Pay?
You can comfortably earn between $15-$20 per hour and get tips from your students and have them on your PayPal or bank account every 15th and 30th of the month.
Basically, all new tutors all have the rate of $15 regardless of the subjects they are teaching. But, if your subject is under the “others,” like teaching music and coding, then you’ll comfortably get around $20 per hour.
Is Varsity Tutors A Scam?
Varsity Tutors is definitely not a scam, and it’s one of the most reputable educational companies out there.
For parents reading this article, I highly suggest that you sign up your kids into their program to get instant access to quality tutors anytime and anywhere.
On the flip side, if you’re reading this post as someone interested in working with Varsity Tutors, I recommend that you don’t hesitate to pursue this opportunity.
While it may not pay as big as traditional tutoring jobs, you can still do it as a side hustle and get a comfortable profit that should probably be more than enough to pay for some bills.
Again, the profit here depends on how much time you are willing to spend tutoring. So, if you are sitting at home and available to work full time as 8 hours a day at the rate of $15 (minimum), you can earn more than two thousand dollars a month, and that’s a pretty solid payday, my opinion.
And what’s even better is that if you decide to drop out of tutoring, you can simply do so by deactivating your account – no contract, no questions asked!
At the same time, as I have stated in the first part of this review, teaching is not really for everyone. So, if you feel that this is not the right opportunity for you, why not consider my most recommended way to make a living online as an alternative?
HOW I MAKE A LIVING ONLINE
We are lucky to be alive when there is no real end to the developments in the online job industry.
If you go back to the early 2000s, I bet you were also dubious if it’s entirely possible to make a career and earn online.
But hey, look at what technology has brought us. 🙂
Everything is made possible in just a few clicks and taps on your phone, from paying websites, cryptocurrencies, and even online trading.
As we see a continuous reliance on technology, I am afraid to say that are also some things that I do not like about it.
For instance, I wouldn’t say I like the fact that there’ve been so many scams lately and that people are falling right into them.
Most of the scammers you’ll encounter nowadays use fake profiles, complex net-hyping methods, and even satirical content.
This is one of the reasons why people, especially newbies, are hesitant to risk investing in such opportunities.
You may find this hard to believe, but just like yourself, I was once also lost and confused, but simultaneously fortunate enough to have found something that will enable me to live life to the fullest without having to worry about tomorrow as much.
I would love to take this chance to introduce you to the very same business model to whom I owe my success and show you what I believe is the best way to get started online with literally less than two bucks a day. 💸
Whatever you do, please don’t get the wrong impression and start to think that I’m talking about some overnight-money-making scheme, okay?
The business model that I’ll be sharing with you does work, but it requires your full attention and perseverance, and only then will you be able to rip the benefits that it offers.
I’ve been doing it for years now, and I comfortably claim that it’s a line of business that every rookie should begin with.
I personally like that it’s easily comprehendible, doesn’t require any previous knowledge or expertise, and provides you with flexibility like you haven’t seen before.
I completely understand that you may not take my word for it, so that’s why I thought that it would be a great idea to share a list of some of my favorite success stories and see what others have to say about it.
If you happen to like what you see, you can feel free to read my money guide as it explains everything there is to know about how I make a living online and how you too can get started for less than a price of a sandwich.
As I end this Varsity Tutors review, it would be nice to hear your thoughts on whether or not you’re willing and ready to commit your time as a tutor under this company.
Hopefully, I was able to shed light and answer whether Varsity Tutors is a scam and a complete waste of time or not.
If you happened to like this post, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it with some of your friends online to help me spread the news on scams and all things financial.
